The overall aim of DOMPET (Project for the Study about the Connection between Domestic Violence and Pet Maltreatment) is to understand and underline dynamics and factors involved in this criminal connection, to become more insights into the processes of animal abuse and domestic violence in terms of prevention.Several studies already shows that animal abuse is a predictor of domestic violence (Ascione, 2008). Closer investigation is urgently needed: the prevalence of the various relations between animal abuse and domestic violence in Europe is unknown. Greater public, professional and political awareness of the relation between animal abuse and domestic violence will be of great help in detecting violent interpersonal situations and can prevent for “worst scenario’s” for humans and animals. (Enders-Slegers, M.J. & Janssen, M.A, 2009).
