A Homer Glen man was charged with animal cruelty after he killed his brother's cat early Thursday by slitting its throat, Will County sheriff's police said.

Sean M. Mulcahy, 30, 14004 Cokes Road, is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony that carries a prison sentence of up to three years and a $25,000 fine.

Police said Mulcahy and his 32-year-old brother had been feuding for several days regarding Mulcahy's ex-girlfriend, got into a heated argument at their home about 4:40 a.m., and Mulcahy stalked off. About 10 minutes later, his brother received a picture message on his phone, showing his cat bloodied and being held by Mulcahy, according to police.

They said Mulcahy fled the home but returned about 8:10 a.m., when his brother called police. Will County Animal Control officers joined police at the home, where Mulcahy was arrested after being questioned and admitting to killing the cat, police said.
