A mysterious poodle kidnapping ends with a Pontotoc County man in jail. Now animal rights advocates want severe punishment for the teen accused of killing the dog. Pontotoc County authorities made the arrest after investigating the brutal act this week. KTEN's Pete Tenney was at the scene of the killing in Ada.

It was a horrifying discovery for a man missing his 6-year old poodle. It was kidnapped, then found nearly decapitated in a sewage drain. The owner reported his dog missing from his trailer home on Thursday. Neighborhood kids followed a trail of blood through an abandoned trailer Friday. The poodle had cruelly been sliced from ear to ear. Animal rights groups say a felony charge for an act like this, should come with a severe penalty.

"The animals have no defense for themselves," says Ada PAWS director Shannon Nickell. "They can't go tell someone if they're abused or neglected. So it takes a special kind of person to report something like that."

Authorities are taking it seriously. 19 year old Robert Baily is in Pontotoc County jail tonight … with a $50,000 bond. He's charged with larceny of a domestic animal, and with cruelty to animals. As Baily learned at his arraignment this afternoon, both are felony charges.  Pete Tenney, KTEN news.
